What is Reiki?

When it comes to explaining Reiki, I usually feel that words are just a cold appetizer. As is well known, the appetite comes with eating – that is, with the application of Reiki. Nevertheless here is a selection of explanations:

  • The simple explanation: Rei-ki is a Japanese word and stands for universal (Rei-) energy (-ki). We can all easily learn how to treat ourselves with Reiki. The Reiki energy is accessible to everyone and inexhaustible. Wikipedia writes that Reiki is an “energy” that should be present in everything that lives. The term includes the “energy” itself, treatment with Reiki and Reiki training.
  • The reasonable explanation: Reiki is an energy that independently detects and balances energetic disharmonies. It leads to better health for humans, animals or plants. A Reiki treatment always has a positive effect and is completely safe.
  • The loving explanation: My teacher Mischa Vögtli once said that Reiki is most comparable to love. Reiki always remains something mysterious, touching and challenging to explain. It is what makes the magic of Reiki and invites you to experience it yourself.
  • The holistic explanation: The Reiki energy works on all levels of health. The World Health Organization distinguishes five levels – the physical, emotional, mental, social and spiritual.
  • The personal explanation: Reiki has become my best friend. It helps me quickly with simple injuries (e.g. wasp stings). It helps me to rein in my fear or to strengthen my ability to concentrate. With Reiki, I have become calmer, more relaxed and more satisfied.
  • The quick explanation: Reiki works very quickly as needed (see wasp sting) and accelerates healing processes.
  • The explanation for foresighted people: Reiki does not only work in emergencies, but it is as well a handy preventive measure. For example, I have had much fewer colds since I have been treating myself with Reiki.
  • The explanation for unbelievers: Reiki works for all of us regardless of faith, religion or cult. I don’t have to believe in the positive effects of Reiki, but it still works.
